#PositiveFood : Savencia and Sapere, shared tastes

#PositiveFood is above all a state of mind that characterizes Savencia and its initiation begins very young with the association "SAPERE, Les classes du gout".

The pleasure of eating have always been part of our DNA: as seen in our commitment to the association “SAPERE, Les classes du goût”, which works to promote a taste education aimed at young children, with a highly original method based on sensory development. Founded in 2010 with former employees of the Group, this association made it possible formalize on a larger scale the awareness-raising actions they were already implementing in schools.

SAPERE has an exemplary approach in several aspects. Through workshops available within and outside the school curriculum, the association's objective is to awaken children to the knowledge and the enjoyment of a varied and balanced diet. In this logic, it avoids using diktats and injunctions, widening the sphere of possibilities instead.

Guided by the SAPERE facilitator, schoolchildren can explore their five senses, discover what a flavour is, and abandon their prejudices: studies have proven that the method reduces neophobia (fear of the unknown) in children, while developing their vocabulary and social relationships. By being collaborative and open to surprises, they learn to take a fresh look at their food while sharpening their curiosity and critical thinking skills. Beyond the educational aspect, these workshops lay the foundations for a balanced diet in the long term and combat obesity, and therefore fostering a healthier lifestyle.

At Savencia, we are proud to contribute to this project, firstly through our Endowment Fund “Bien Nourrir l’Homme”, but also and above all, through the voluntary commitment of many employees.

Since 2016, 104 volunteers have been trained as “taste facilitators” by SAPERE.

Between 2017 and 2018, during their working hours, they organised nearly 127 operations in schools and leisure centres.

Not only is the project appreciated by the children and their teachers, but coordinating these workshops can also be a real catalyst for some employees, who discover unsuspected pedagogical skills. All emphasize the incredibly enriching side of being part of these workshops, where the exchanges are truly stimulating.

These “Classes du goût” (“Taste classes”) are totally #PositiveFood! By placing the pleasure of eating at the heart of its method, by privileging discovery over guilt: SAPERE has pitched it perfectly. Its approach reflects the line taken by other players, like our partner Intermarché, which has been active in the school environment for the last 12 years, introducing children to seasonal fruit and vegetables. All these awareness-raising actions are moving in the right direction, and the more we are, the more powerful the #PositiveFood movement will be!

Teaching children sensory awaking:

an experience I recommend !

We are 15 employees to give our time to educate children about taste through the five senses.

We get in touch with schools, activity centers and town halls, and we produce fun materials for workshops.

I enjoy this moment of exchange and sharing with the children. In 2019, nearly 80 pupils from primary schools were trained.
