With 3.6 billion liters of milk collected in France from more than 6,000 farms across 45 departments, Savencia is a major player in the dairy industry, focusing on cheese and dairy specialties. Discover our Tour de France.
Savencia prioritizes locations in the best terroirs and works alongside producers to create economic and social momentum. Thanks to this local presence, the Group promotes the diversity of French livestock farming through a mosaic of dairy products and cheeses, many of which have become iconic.
In western France
With more than half of France's dairy production, Brittany, Normandy, and the Pays de la Loire region form France's largest dairy basin and also the most important basin for Savencia. Elle & Vire butter and cream, made from Normandy milk, enjoy a worldwide reputation. Coeur de Lion and Le Rustique cheeses, produced with milk from this region, are also iconic. Savencia also develops ingredients for infant nutrition and pharmaceutical excipients, demonstrating the complementary nature of the Group's activities.
In the Southwest
The Southwest region, stretching from Deux Sèvres to Béarn, offers an impressive diversity of landscapes and activities. Savencia collects cow's, goat's, and sheep's milk here.
Cow's milk is used to produce soft cheeses (Saint Albray, Chaumes), fresh cheeses (Tartare, St Moret) and Lescure butter (AOP Charentes-Poitou).
- Goat's milk is transformed into Chavroux and Saint Loup sticks.
- Sheep's milk is the basis for specialties such as Etorki and Brebiou, as well as Roquefort Papillon and Ossau-Iraty Esquirrou AOP.
In the North
The Hauts-de-France dairy basin is one of the pillars of French production. The regions of Avesnois, Thiérache, and Boulonnais are famous for their high-quality milk. In Nouvion-en-Thiérarche, Savenca produces Maroilles Fauquet, which has been awarded AOP status. This iconic cheese, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2025, symbolizes local commitment and the exceptional quality of the region's products.
In the Grand Est region
This region is the birthplace of Savencia. It was in Illoud that Jean-Noël Bongrain created Caprice des Dieux in 1956, marking the beginning of the Group's history. In addition to this iconic cheese, there is also Le Montagnard des Vosges and Géramont, which is very popular abroad, particularly in Germany. Milk from this region is also used to make PDO specialties such as Epoisse Berthaut and PGI specialties such as Soumaintrain. This is a fine example of the diversity and quality of local livestock farming.
In Auvergne
Dominated by the Massif Central, Auvergne is a mountainous region where the Montbéliarde breed is present in large numbers in herds. Local producers are proud to supply milk for cheeses such as Saint Agur, with its blue-veined paste, melt-in-the-mouth texture and strong flavor, or Rochebaron. These products are testament to the excellence and expertise of Auvergne's farmers.
Of course, this list is not exhaustive of all the products manufactured by the group across the country. In all these collection and production regions, Savencia cultivates the pride of the producers who deliver their milk, contributing to the creation of strong brands and promoting regional identity.
